Group Training Programs

The Running Store offers a variety of training programs to help you meet your goals. Whether you have never run in your life or are an accomplished runner seeking to set a new personal best or qualify for the Boston Marathon, we have training opportunities for you!
  We currently offer the following group training programs:

Running 101

Have you always wanted to run but are not sure how to get started? Are you returning to running after a long lay-off or injury? If so,  Running 101 is the program for you. This program is a good bridge from walking to running. The program begins with a series of run/walk workouts and builds up to running an entire 5k race of your choice.

Running 101 Participants receive the following:

  • An initial phone consult to discuss your current fitness level, prior running history and fitness goals.
  • Detailed training schedule specific to your ability level and goals.
  • Twice weekly group coached workouts that begin as a series of run/walk workouts and build up to running an entire 5k.
  • Educational materials and guest speakers on various running related topics such as nutrition, hydration, injury prevention,core strength and much more!


Personal Best 5k/10k

Have you been running regularly for some time now and would like to get faster, but are not quite sure how to do so? Have you read about fartlek runs, hill repeats, interval and tempo runs but not sure how to incorporate them into your training? If so, then this is the program for you. Runners participating in the program will be introduced to these various types of workouts designed to help you achieve a new 5k or 10k personal best!

Personal Best 5k/10k Participants receive the following:

  • An initial phone consult to discuss your current fitness level, prior running history and fitness goals.
  • Detailed training schedule specific to your ability level and goals.
  • Twice weekly group coached workouts. Workouts may include interval, tempo, easy aerobic or hill training.
  • Educational materials and guest speakers on various running related topics such as nutrition, hydration, injury prevention,core strength and much more!
10 Miler - Marathon Training

Are you training for an upcoming 10-miler, half or full marathon? Are you looking to run your first marathon or qualify for Boston this fall? If so, this is the perfect training program for you!  Completing an endurance event can be a life-changing experience. Doing it with others sharing that common goal can make the experience even more rewarding. And doing it with the support and guidance of an experienced coach who does the thinking for you will ensure that you get to the finish line and/or get there faster than you have before or thought you could!

10 Miler - Marathon Training participants receive the following:

  • Detailed training schedule specific to your ability level and goals.
  • Twice weekly group coached workouts. Workouts may include interval, tempo, easy aerobic or hill training.
  • Educational materials and guest speakers on various running related topics such as nutrition, hydration, injury prevention,core strength and much more!
Upcoming Session Location and Fees:

Currently our Running 101, Personal Best 5k/10k and 10 miler - Marathon Training Programs meet at 6:30 PM on Monday evenings at Marsteller Middle School in Bristow and Saturday mornings at 7:30 AM at various courses in Gainesville, Bristow, Haymarket, Manassas, the W&OD trail and Burke Lake; during the warmer months, we move the starting time of our Saturday runs to 6:30 AM in an effort to beat the heat.

We divide the training programs into three sessions a year. Our 2011 sessions are now complete. The 2012 training sessions are indicated below.  Registration is on-going and you may join in the middle of a training session at a pro-rated rate.
 
Session I - January 2nd - April 14th ($295 TRS VIP Members, $345 non-VIP Members)
Session II - April 16th - July 7th (shorter 12 week session:  $225 TRS VIP Members, $275 non-VIP Members)
Session III - July 9th - October 28th ($295 TRS VIP Members, $345 non-VIP Members)
